Thoughts 💭 : Old Perth Palo Cortado is a limited edition blend, matured in Palo Cortado sherry casks, offering a unique take on the Old Perth range. This expression brings bittersweet flavours to the forefront, providing a balanced and intriguing drinking experience. The medium mouthfeel and well-integrated ginger spice are pleasantly tempered, even with the whisky’s higher ABV, making it approachable and easy to enjoy.

On the nose, you’re greeted with sweet notes of chocolate caramel, vanilla toffee, and roasted nuts, underpinned by hints of cinnamon and red apples. The palate delivers a well-rounded mix of cinnamon, dry fruits, caramel, and orange marmalade, complemented by a gentle ginger spice. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving subtle notes of orange zest, nuts, and dry rye crackers.

While some may prefer the richer PX edition of Old Perth, this Palo Cortado variant provides a lovely balance of sweet and bitter flavours, making it a versatile and enjoyable dram. Its smoothness and layered complexity make it easy to sip, but its higher ABV means it’s one to approach with care!
