Thoughts 💭 : Really great dram, pretty impressive offering for an Inaugural release from the distillery. The mouthfeel is oily, there’s a lot of spice in there but as you can tell from the tasting notes there is an explosion of complexity in flavours. The balance is remarkable, putting your whisky into 4 different types of barrels (Oloroso butts, Pedro Ximénez hogsheads, bourbon barrels, and rum barriques) sometimes just leads to flavours clashing and leading to something that has lost the complexity you would expect or the flavours are too subtle and weak. The flavours in this really pop out, it’s been a really good job and hopefully the releases that follow it will be just as good and we won’t see dilution or pulling out before it’s ready in a rush to release more.
In all I think this is an award winning whisky for best newcomer or something, if you didn’t get a bottle don’t go panicking to auction sites to buy one, there’s no doubt that we’ll see similar releases from the distillery in the not too distant future. Generally speaking when a distillery starts pumping out whisky it does it in a huge explosion of releases before it calms down a little, just be on the lookout for the next release.
Sláinte!
