This month we explore Nc’nean known for its organic distilling using sustainability and innovation. An interesting combination of STR Red-Wine and Oloroso Sherry casks make this one worth a try.

❄️ Non Chill Filtered
🖍 Natural Colour
Strength 💪 : 47% ABV
Colour 🌈 : Mahogany Brown
Nose👃🏼 : Beautiful rich scents of fruit cake, golden syrup sponge cake, red apples, vanilla fudge, cinnamon, orange peel and fresh leather
Taste 👅 : Smooth but rich and spicy, sweet fruit cake, glacé cherries, red apples, blackberries, some orange drizzle and vanilla toffee
Finish 🏁 : Dusting of cocoa powder, ginger and dry baking spices
Thoughts 💭 : An incredibly sweet and fruity dram, the mix of Oloroso and STR-Red Wine really enhances those sweet fruits whilst maintaining the almost Christmas like spices delivered from the Oloroso. There’s some harmonious balance in the flavours that make this feel incredibly smooth but it packs a big kick of spice reminding you this is a natural 46+ abv whisky.
I was excited by this especially with it being Nc’nean and knowing how dedicated they are to sustainability but also the mix of cask maturation. If I was to nit pick, look, I’d say the Oloroso was a bit dominating here, what I’d have preferred would to have had more influence coming from that STR cask which to me played second fiddle to the Oloroso. Nevertheless this is a quality dram and truly unique. Definitely something that you need to try.
