Thoughts 💭 : To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee, Ardbeg Eureka was conceived after months of meticulous experimentation and deliberation.
Distillers Dr. Bill Lumsden and Gillian Macdonald experienced a moment of “Eureka!” when they conceived the expression by combining Ardbeg matured in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks with Ardbeg crafted from roasted malt and matured in bourbon casks.
For me, this is one of the best whiskies to come out of Ardbeg. The layers of complexity and sweetness imparted by the whisky bring depth and character to the expression. The mixture of bourbon and PX sherry, along with the peat smoke, gives some great sweet and savoury flavours, and the 52.2% ABV brings a great punch with it.
Sláinte!
