Thoughts 💭 :  Stauning Host (pronounced “Hurst”, Danish for “Harvest”) is an innovative Danish whisky that showcases the distillery’s dedication to crafting bold, flavourful expressions using traditional methods with a modern twist. A combination of floor-malted Danish barley and rye is used in this whisky, reflecting Stauning’s unique approach to using local grains and in-house malting to create distinct character in their spirits.

This whisky is matured in American oak casks and a touch of Port wood that enhances the complexity of both the barley and rye. The maturation process brings out rich, spicy notes from the rye while balancing it with the sweetness and maltiness of the barley. The spirit is double distilled in 24 small, direct-fired copper pot stills resulting in a whisky that’s both robust, well-rounded and rich in flavour.

Stauning Host has a thick, mouth-coating texture, with layers of sweet and spicy notes. The influence of the malts, combined with the maturation in carefully chosen casks, offers a depth of flavour that showcases Stauning’s craftsmanship. The mix of malted barley and rye delivers a balance of sweetness, spice, and earthy undertones, making this a compelling dram for fans of both rye and malt whiskies.
