Colour 🌈 : Very dark brown, virtually black
Nose👃🏼 : Aniseed, vanilla, caramel, stewed apples and liquorice allsorts
Taste 👅 : It’s fairly light, the taste favours the sweet vanilla side with the liquorice not too far behind
Finish 🏁 : Dry rye crackers and oak spices
Thoughts 💭 : A nice sweet rum that works well as both a drink on its own and as a sweet mixer in cocktails. With cocktails in particular the sweet and liquorice flavours work well in enhancing the sweetness from the cocktails.
A bit more about Deeds:
In the small English town of Pontefract they were experts at growing liquorice root which they formed into sweet liquorice cakes called Pontefract Cakes – often called the Yorkshire Penny.
The delicious little jet back sweets tasted of liquorice, caramel and vanilla – perfect for flavouring, colouring and sweetening the salty sea rum – the resulting drink was a pontefract miracle!
Deeds Rum pays homage to the original pontefract miracle.
