Colour 🌈 : Gold

Taste 👅 : Beach bbq, smoked bacon, vanilla fudge, salted caramel and black pepper spice
Finish 🏁 : Sea water, dried fruit and charred oak
Thoughts 💭 : Admittedly I had a Lagavulin prior to trying this so my palate had accustomed itself to the big peat hit. Nevertheless the smoky peat ploughed its way through the senses but noticeably some sweeter notes came through quickly. There’s a good balance here between sweet and savoury making it quite pleasant to drink, the mouthfeel is oily and the dram is a big hit of peat mixed in with a smoky bbq and then pudding is served up with lashings of vanilla fudge, toffee and salted caramel.
In all it’s not miles apart from the Lagavulin but perhaps a little less harsh on the senses and touch sweeter. Again Talisker is one of the best Diageo has to offer and this one has not disappointed. In terms of value this one sits at £120, it’s by no means ideal and pretty pricey but still better than some of the other special releases. There are whiskies out there that easily compete like Filey Bay Peated, Kilkerran Heavily Peated and Kilchhoman but if you’re set on buying a Diageo special release this year and had to choose one, this one should definitely be one of the contenders.
