❄️ Non Chill Filtered
🖍 Natural Colour
Colour 🌈 : Light Gold
Nose👃🏼 : Sweet sandy beach campfire, stone fruits, orange peel, white chocolate and tropical fruit juice
Taste 👅 : Big hit of bonfire smoke, hints stone fruits follow through, orange marmalade and black pepper spice. Some chocolate comes through after a few more sips along with toffee flavours
Finish 🏁 : Saline, tannin and some sweet honey with a lingering charred oak
Thoughts 💭 : This is a big hit of peat smoke that overwhelms the senses. Fortunately with each subsequent sip you are opened up to more flavours that slowly come through with the sweeter ones increasing with each sip. There is a good amount of heat throughout the dram and the mouthfeel is fairly oily.
In my opinion Lagavulin has always been one of Diageo’s best whiskies and this one doesn’t let it down. The complexity is pretty darn good in this and it’s always nice to have a Lagavulin that is cask strength, natural colour and non chill filtered. The price is a touch outrageous, you’re currently looking at around £154 (Nov 2023) for a bottle. For a fraction of this you could have a bottle of Filey Bay IPA or Kilkerran Heavily Peated or Kilchoman Machir Bay all incredibly good peated whiskies.
So to summarise it’s a great whisky but not worth the price.
Sláinte!
